named Cal Ripken League Pitcher of the Week

- In summer baseball action,
North Carolina Wesleyan lefthander Max Knowles (pictured)
earned Pitcher of the Week honors in the Cal Ripken League
for the extended first week of 2010. Playing for the
Alexandria Aces, Knowles won both of his starts, following
up a seven-inning victory on Opening Night with a
nine-inning shutout on June 9th.

Baseball's Andrew Webb garners All-South Region accolades

The North Carolina Wesleyan baseball program and head coach
Charlie Long are pleased to announce that pitcher Andrew
Webb has earned ABCA (American Baseball Coaches Association)
All-South Region accolades for his performance during the
2010 season. Webb was tabbed a Second Team selection after
helping lead his Battling Bishops' to their second
consecutive USA South Regular Season Championship. This is
the first All-Region award of his career.

Bishops drop two at USA South Baseball Tourney

- The top-seeded Battling Bishop
baseball team dropped its first two games at the 2010 USA
South Conference baseball tournament, falling to 5th-seeded
Ferrum by a 6-2 score on Thursday before dropping a 13-7
decision to 4th-seeded Christopher Newport on Friday. Junior
Zach Alexander (pictured) was 4-for-7 with a double,
homerun, two RBIs, and two runs scored over the two-game
span, while sophomore Patrick Laffin went 5-for-9 with his
second homer of the season.

The USA South has announced its
All-Conference awards for baseball, tennis,
softball, lacrosse and golf. North Carolina
Wesleyan had 24 athletes earn recognition, while six
Bishops were named to their respective
All-Sportsmanship teams. Among the 20
honorees, there were four First Team honorees, eight
Second Team picks, three Third Team selections, and
nine Honorable Mentions. Leading the way were
head coaches Charlie Long (pictured) and Dominic Modise, who
each earned Coach of the Year accolades for the
second consecutive season.
