Trio of Battling Bishops garner All-South Region accolades

The North Carolina Wesleyan baseball program and head coach
Charlie Long are pleased to announce that a trio of Battling
Bishop seniors have earned All-South Region accolades for
their performances during the 2009 season. Third baseman
Zollie Woodlief (pictured) was named to the Second Team,
while centerfielder Luke Williford and starting pitcher Ben
Moore garnered Third Team honors. The three helped
lead the Bishops to the 2009 USA South Regular Season
Championship, Tournament Championship, and an NCAA
Tournament berth. more

NC Wesleyan's baseball season came to an end on
Thursday afternoon in Salisbury, MD as the Bishops
were eliminated from the NCAA South Regional with a 14-2
loss to Johns Hopkins. The Bishops, who fell in
the opening round to York (PA) by a 12-1 score,
finish the year with a 27-21 overall record. Despite the
pair of losses, however, the 2009 season will forever be
highlighted by the program's 1000th victory, 16th regular
season USA South Championship, 6th USA South Tournament
Title, and 21st NCAA Tournament bid.

baseball set to kick off NCAA regional play

The NC Wesleyan baseball team left early Tuesday morning for
Salisbury, MD where the Battling Bishops will kick off NCAA
regional play on Wednesday afternoon versus York College
(PA). The Bishops, who are the #3 seed in the regional, will
enter tournament play with a 27-19 overall record and a #25
national ranking. This is Wesleyan's 21st appearance in the
national tournament, and the Bishops will going for a 13th
regional crown.

Academic All-District
Team.
A Business
Administration
major, the Wake
Forest native was a

selection and one of
21 student-athletes honored in District
3.
To be nominated, a
player must be at least
a sophomore academically
and have a cumulative
grade point average of
at least a 3.2 on a 4.0
scale.

baseball celebrates Senior Day with 7-1 win over York

The Battling Bishop baseball team
of North Carolina Wesleyan celebrated 2009 Senior Day on
Saturday afternoon with a 7-1 victory over York College (PA)
at Bauer Field. All eight seniors played significant roles
in the victory, as the Bishops moved to 27-19 on the season.

Bishops drop pair of contests to Division II Mt. Olive
Mt.
Olive, NC -
North Carolina Wesleyan's baseball team dropped a
pair of contests on Wednesday evening, falling to
defending Division II National Champion Mt. Olive
College. The Trojans took the opener 7-5 thanks to a
two-run homer in the sixth that broke a 5-5 tie,
while MOC hurler Ryan Kussmaul tossed a two-hitter
in the nightcap en route to an 8-2 victory. The
Battling Bishops now stand at 25-18 on the season,
while Mt. Olive improves to 30-18.

Wesleyan baseball wins USAC Tourney title, Moore named MVP

Top-seeded North Carolina Wesleyan
beat Shenandoah twice on Sunday to win the USA South
Conference Tournament Championship
at Burlington Athletic Stadium. After winning the first game
to force a deciding game, the Bishops knocked off the
Hornets 6-2 to earn the title and an automatic berth into
the NCAA Tournament. The victory secured
NCWC's first tournament championship since 2006 and
its sixth overall. Bishop hurler Ben Moore (pictured) was
tabbed MVP after earning his
second win of the tourney,
allowing just one earned run on
five hits in a complete-game effort.
