Baseball wins fourth straight, downs Lynchburg 9-4

Rocky Mount, NC - In Friday afternoon baseball action, North Carolina Wesleyan picked up where it left off last weekend offensively, plating nine runs en route to a 9-4 victory over visiting Lynchburg College at Bauer Field.  Senior Kyle Robertson (pictured) picked up the win, allowing one earned run on three hits in five innings of work. The win is the fourth straight for the Bishops, who move to 4-1 on the season.  The Hornets remain winless at 0-3 overall.

The Bishops got their offense going in the top of the first.  After two walks and a single loaded the bases, junior Luke Williford singled home the game’s first run, and senior Jason Webb followed with a two-run single to right-center.  Williford later scored on a wild pitch to give Wesleyan a 4-0 lead after one.

Lynchburg plated its first run in the third on a Kyle Bradley RBI-double, but the Bishops answered with a Justin Tuck RBI-single in their half of the frame.  The Hornets came back with another score in the fourth only to see the Bishops plate four runs over the next two innings to go up 9-2.

The Hornets doubled their run production with a two-spot in the sixth thanks to two Bishop throwing errors.  Both runs were unearned with Matt Winston notching his second RBI of the day.

The 9-4 lead was more than enough for Robertson and Jonathan Shearon.  Shearon picked up the save by going four innings and allowing two runs (both unearned) on three hits.

D.W. Moore took the loss for Lynchburg.  He went three innings and allowed seven runs (all earned) on eight hits.

Matt Smith, Chris Pecora, Jason Gay, Webb, and Tuck each had two hits for the Bishops, who tallied 13 hits as a team.  Six different players recorded hits for the Hornets.

Wesleyan continues its current homestand with a two-game set against Piedmont College on Saturday and Sunday.  Both games are slated for 1:00 p.m. at Bauer Field.
