Trio of Battling Bishops garner
All-South Region accolades
Rocky
Mount, NC -
The North Carolina Wesleyan baseball program and head coach
Charlie Long are pleased to announce that a trio of Battling
Bishop seniors have earned All-South Region accolades for
their performances during the 2009 season. Third baseman
Zollie Woodlief was named to the Second Team, while
centerfielder Luke Williford and starting pitcher Ben Moore
garnered Third Team honors. The three helped lead the
Bishops to the 2009 USA South Regular Season Championship,
Tournament Championship, and an NCAA Tournament berth.
Woodlief (left) led the team with a .360
batting average and nine homeruns this season. His 100 total
bases also ranked first on the squad, while his 43 RBI were
second best. The All-Region nod is the first in
Woodlief's career, and the award caps a 2009 season that saw
him earn First-Team All-Conference, All-Tournament, and
Academic All-Region honors.
Williford (right) was second on the team
this season with a .345 batting average and first in RBI
with 47. He also led the team with 14 doubles, 29
stolen bases, and 43 runs scored. Like Woodlief, this
is Williford's first All-Region award. The honor
compliments his other 2009 achievements, including First
Team All-Conference and All-Tournament accolades.
Moore
(left) rounds out Wesleyan's All-Region picks after a solid
2009 campaign that saw him turn in a team-best 8-2 record on
the mound and a 4.70 ERA. Moore also led the squad in
complete games (4) and innings pitched (74.2) en route to
USA South Pitcher of the Year honors. This is the second
consecutive All-Region award for the senior hurler, whose
season was highlighted by being named the Most Valuable
Player of the USA South Tournament.
Congratulations to all three athletes on
their outstanding accomplishments!
