South preseason poll

- The
USA South Athletic
Conference released its
2008 preseason coaches'
poll at Tuesday's
Football Media Day
hosted by Averett
University.
Defending champion North
Carolina Wesleyan
College, under the
direction of first-year
head coach Mark
Henninger (pictured),
was picked fourth.
Christopher Newport
University took the poll
with five of eight
first-place votes en
route to 47 total
points. Ferrum
College took second in
the poll and received
two first-place votes,
while the Battling
Bishops earned the final
top pick.

Football’s Boykin tabbed preseason First Team
All-American

- The North Carolina Wesleyan football program and
head coach Mark Henninger are pleased to announce
that junior defensive linemen LeeRon Boykin
(pictured) has been tabbed a preseason First Team
All-American by D3Football.com, The Sporting News,
and Lindy's. Boykin, who became the program’s first
postseason All-American last fall, now becomes the
first to garner preseason accolades. With his
selection, the Warsaw, NC native brings even more
national attention to a young NCWC program that has
earned a #18 preseason national ranking.

- The North Carolina Wesleyan
football team, under the direction of first-year head
coach Mark Henninger, continues to garner national
attention among Division III programs. After a
record-breaking 2007 season that saw the Bishops earn
their first USA South Championship and NCAA playoff
berth, the publishers of
Lindy's 2008 College
Football Preview ranked Wesleyan 18th in
their preseason top-25 poll. The recognition is
well-deserved for the 5th-year program, which finished
with a #22 AFCA and #19 D3Football.com ranking after last
