Bishops picked to defend USA South football title

- The USA South Athletic Conference
released its 2010 Preseason Coaches Poll on
Tuesday morning at the league's annual Football Media Day
hosted by Maryville College. The Battling Bishops, under
the direction of third-year head coach Mark Henninger
(pictured), were picked to defend their 2009 league title,
the program's second in the past three seasons.
Wesleyan received five of eight first place votes for 45
points in the balloting.

Boykin named All-American, four Bishops
earn All-South honors

In a year marked by tremendous success on
the gridiron, the North Carolina Wesleyan football team has
once again been rewarded for its efforts this past fall as
four Bishops were named to D3Football.com's All-Region team.
Leading the way was senior LeeRon Boykin (pictured), who
went on to earn Honorable Mention All-American status for
the second time in his stellar career. The Warsaw, NC native qualified for
All-American accolades as a First Team All-South pick.

Football's Orlando Webb named to Team Stars & Stripes

- Team Stars & Stripes head coach
Bill Manlove has selected a provisional roster of 51 players
to face the Tec Monterrey All Stars in the 2009 Tazón de
Estrellas (Bowl of the Stars) on Saturday, December 19 on
the Tec de Monterrey Campus Estado de Mexico. The visiting
team, comprised of NCAA Division III All-Stars, includes
North Carolina Wesleyan senior wide receiver Orlando Webb.
Webb (pictured) recently completed his stellar Battling
Bishop career as a
three-time USA South All-Conference selection.

falls to #3 Wesley in NCAA opening round

- North Carolina Wesleyan's football squad saw its
stellar season come to an end on Saturday afternoon in the
opening round of the 2009 NCAA Playoffs as the Battling
Bishops (8-3) fell to 3rd-ranked and top-seeded Wesley
College by a 55-23 score. NCWC held a 17-13 advantage late
in the first half, but the Wolverines (11-0) countered with
28 unanswered points to pull away for the victory.

Wesleyan dominates USA
South postseason football awards

The USA South released its 2009 postseason awards for
football on Wednesday with a total of 94 student-athletes
earning All-Conference honors. NC Wesleyan
is pleased to announced that the Bishops earned four of the five individual
awards and boasted an unprecedented ten First Team
selections. Leading the way were seniors Bo
Jordan and LeeRon Boykin, who earned Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year
honors. Additionally, James Wallace collected Defensive Rookie of the
Year accolades, while Mark Henninger (pictured) was named Coach of the Year.
