Four Battling Bishops earn D3Football.com All-Region honors

Rocky Mount, NC - Head Coach Mark Henninger and the North Carolina Wesleyan football program are pleased to announce that four Battling Bishops have earned All-South Region honors from D3Football.com. Defensive linemen Quinderra Spellman and LeeRon Boykin, along with safety Quentin Pope and offensive lineman Anthony Moore, were all tabbed Third Team All-Region selections after garnering First Team All-USA South accolades. The four helped lead Wesleyan to a 6-4 record this fall, including a 5-2 league mark.

Senior Quinderra Spellman, an Elizabeth City, NC native, led the team with 67 tackles this season, including 11.5 for a loss.  Most impressively, he set a new program record for sacks in the season with 7.5 and concluded his impressive career as the Bishops' all-time leader in the category with 14.0 total.

He was joined on the defensive line by junior LeeRon Boykin of Warsaw, NC. The preseason All-American fought double and triple-teams all season but still managed 34 tackles, including 10 for a loss.

Senior safety Quentin Pope rounded out the Bishops' defensive selections.  Pope was second on the squad behind Spellman with 62 tackles this season (39 solo, 23 assists). The Charlotte native also recorded two interceptions and five pass break-ups.

Finally, sophomore Anthony Moore was selected on the offensive line after anchoring a unit that held for record-breaking quarterback Bo Jordan and made lanes for USA South Offensive Rookie of the Year Stedman Mathis.

Congratulations to all four young men on their well-deserved recognition!
