Wesleyan golfers open up season at Tom Kinder Memorial

Harrisonburg, VA - The 2006-07 golf season got underway this past weekend as the Battling Bishops traveled to the Tom Kinder Memorial hosted by Bridgewater College.  The two-day tournament was played at Lakeview Golf Course, a par-72 course in Harrisonburg, VA.  Host Bridgewater took home top honors, while the Bishops finished 11th among the 12-team field.  Wesleyan was led by senior Steve Lee, who finished tied for 15th with rounds of 77 and 76.

Also competing for the Bishops were Blair Crews, Daniel Chewning, Shaun Moore, and David Smith.  Crews, a freshman, turned in a solid showing in his first collegiate tournament with rounds of 77 and 78 to finish tied for 22nd at 11-over par.

Chewning, Moore, and Smith shot two-day totals of 163, 193, and 213, respectively.

Billy McDonald of Roanoke and Ryan White of Lynchburg tied for top individual honors at two-under par for the two-day event.

The Bishops return to action next Sunday and Monday when they travel to the Piedmont College Fall Invitational in Rutledge, GA.
