Wesleyan golfers finish
second at Ford's Colony Fall Challenge
Rocky
Mount, NC
- The Battling Bishop golf team of
North Carolina Wesleyan hosted its First Annual Ford's
Colony Fall Challenge on Sunday, kicking off the 2008-09
season for second-year head coach Mark Cole and his squad.
The one-round event was won by Cape Fear Community College with a
total team score of 292.
The Bishops shot 314 as a team to finish second.
Originally scheduled for
Saturday, several teams dropped out of the tournament after
Tropical Storm Hanna forced postponement to Sunday.
The Bishops, however, made the most of their opportunity as
Cole Brantner turned in a team-best 76 (+4) to tie for fourth
place. Sophomore Dylan Bedy shot a 78 (+5) to take
eighth.
Several newcomers to the
NCWC squad also made their collegiate debuts. Johannes
Soini and Mike Emerson carded an 80 and 81, respectively,
while freshmen Andrew Smith and Karson Mott competed as
individuals. Smith turned in a 15-over 87 with Mott
finishing one stroke behind him.
Cape Fear's Ryan Marquardt
took home medalist honors with a two-under 70. He was the
only golfer to finish at or below par.
