Wesleyan golf wraps up fall
season at GC O'Briant Memorial
Greensboro,
NC
- The Battling Bishop golfers
of North Carolina Wesleyan fought cold, windy conditions on
Monday and Tuesday afternoon as they wrapped up their 2008
fall schedule by competing in the Guilford College O'Briant
Memorial Tournament.
Featuring seven of the NCAA Division III's top 25 teams, the
two-round tournament was held at the par-70, 6,944-yard
Cardinal Golf & Country Club in Greensboro.
Sophomore Cole Brantner (pictured) paced
the Bishops with rounds of 84 and 87 for a two-day 171.
The tournament featured 14 teams and 71 golfers.
Other Bishops competing were Andrew Smith (94-87), Johannes Soini (94-91), Karson Mott (96-89), and Mike Emerson
(90-96). The Bishops carded team rounds of 362 and 354 for
a two-day total of 716 (14th).
Methodist University took home top team honors. The Monarchs
placed three golfers among the top-five finishers to
outdistance Oglethorpe University by 26 strokes. Tournament
host Guilford College shot 302 and 324 to share a third
place finish with Rhodes College (305-321=626).
Methodist junior Josh Schrader won his first collegiate
tournament by carding rounds of 72 and 71 for a two-day 143.
His 71 marked the tournament's low round. The Monarchs shot
the low team score both days with rounds of 299 and 300.
Having completed their 2008 fall schedule, the Battling
Bishops will now prepare for their 2009 spring slate.
Wesleyan's tournament dates, along with the 2009 USA
