Smith paces Battling Bishop golfers at Barton Intercollegiate

Wilson, NC - Sophomore Todd Smith carded rounds of 78 and 84 on Monday and Tuesday to pace the North Carolina Wesleyan golf team at the 2009 Hampton Inn-Barton College Intercollegiate. The two-day event featured 104 players among 22 teams and was held at the Wilson Country Club, a par-72, 6,851-yard course in Wilson, NC. Smith (pictured) finished tied for 56th, while the Bishops turned in a 14th-place finish as a team.

Others competing for North Carolina Wesleyan included Mike Emerson, who turned in a two-day 177 (94-83) to finish tied for 82nd. Cole Brantner (89-91=180) and Andrew Smith (94-87=181) rounded out the Bishop line-up.

Host Barton took top team honors with a two-day 597, while Mt. Olive College turned in a runner-up finish. The Trojans' Scott Woodard earned medalist honors with rounds of 70 and 72.

Wesleyan will host its annual Don Scalf Invitational this Saturday and Sunday at Ford's Colony Golf Club in Rocky Mount. This year's tourney will feature six teams: NCWC, Shenandoah, Felician, Chowan, Pitt Community College, and Johnston Community College. Golfers will begin teeing off at 10:00 a.m.
