Gilbert leads Wesleyan golf
to 6th-place finish at Greensboro
Greensboro, NC
- Freshman golfer Jack Gilbert
continued his impressive play on Monday and Tuesday, carding
rounds of 70 and 75 for a two-day total of 145 (+1) at
Greensboro College's Fall Invitational held at Meadowlands
Country Club. Gilbert (pictured) finished in 7th-place among
71 golfers to secure his second top-10 finish in as many
tournaments. As a team, the Battling Bishops finished in 6th
place in the 13-team event with scores of 305 and 297.
In addition to Gilbert's
strong performance, freshman teammate Greg Hughes also
faired well with rounds of 75 and 74 to finish at five over
and tie for 17th place. Stefan Emmoth shot a 77 and 76 to
finish 29th, while Kristoffer Idestal rebounded from a first
round 83 on Monday to shoot a 72 on Tuesday. Sophomore Adam
Coelho rounded out Wesleyan's scorers with a two-day total
of 162 (82-80).
Methodist University took
top team honors with scores of 286 and 289 to finish at one
under par. Host Greensboro finished second at 15 over
(292-299), while the Monarchs' Josh Speight earned medalist
honors with two rounds of 69 to finish at six under.

With runner-up and
6th-place finishes over their first two tournaments, the
Battling Bishops’ are grabbing national attention in
Golfstat’s latest rankings. Wesleyan currently boasts
the #1 ranked freshman class among all Division III
schools, while as a team, the Bishops are ranked #9 in
the nation with a Division record of 242-9 and a scoring
average of 74.2 thusfar.
Wesleyan returns to action on October
4th and 5th at
Shenandoah University's Fall Tournament. The
two-day event will be held at the Winchester Country Club.
