Wesleyan cracks Golf World / Nike Golf D-III Coaches Top-25

New York, NY - The second Golf World/Nike Golf Division III Coaches’ Poll of the fall season has been released, combining the resources of Golf World magazine, Nike Golf, and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). North Carolina Wesleyan and head coach Mark Cole are pleased to announce that the Battling Bishops were tabbed #21 in the nation, marking the first such ranking in program history.

The Bishops, who boast the top-ranked freshmen class and the 10th-ranked team in the nation according to GolfStat, have tallied first-place, runner-up, and sixth-place finishes this fall. As a team, Wesleyan has recorded five top-5, eight top-10, and eleven top-20 individual showings thusfar, including freshman Kristoffer Idestal's medalist performance at last week's Shenandoah Invitational. The Battling Bishops also carry just over a 75 stroke average per golfer.

USA South foe Methodist University is the new number one team in the poll, earning 11 of the 15 first-place votes. The Monarchs have won both of their tournaments this fall, most recently winning the Gordin-Myers Coca-Cola Classic at Duke University GC in Durham, NC.

Rounding out the top-five are Huntingdon, Oglethorpe, Guilford, and Skidmore. Greensboro (No. 8) and Rhodes (No. 9) cracked the top-10, after being ranked 16 and 11, respectively, in the previous poll. Southwestern (No. 12), NCWC (No. 21), Bridgewater (No. 22), and Trinity University (No. 23) are making their first appearances of the season in the top-25.

The complete results, including results from Divisions I, II and the NAIA, will appear in the October 19th issue of Golf World and can be viewed online now at www.golfworld.com.

Wesleyan wraps up its fall season on October 26th and 27th at the Guilford College Fall Challenge. The two-day event will be held at The Cardinal Golf & Country Club in Greensboro.
