Mark Cole enters his third season
at the helm of the North Carolina Wesleyan men’s golf program and will be
the new head coach of the inaugural women’s program, slated to start in the
fall 2009.
“I am truly excited about the future
of Wesleyan College and our golf programs, in particular. We have an
exceptional golf course (Ford’s Colony) as our home course and two other
courses within our Rocky Mount community that give us exceptional
opportunities for golfers to train and compete.”
In addition to the multiple courses,
golfers, as well as those interested in pursuing a golfing career, will find
the new Golf Management minor a tremendous set of academic offerings that
will get them prepared for opportunities in the golf industry.
“We are in the process of
establishing a Wesleyan Golf Academy that will assist the College team
players, those who are part of the golf minor, and many individuals in our
local community. This is a great time to be looking at Wesleyan if golf is
your interest.”
The new academy will allow programs
such as camps, clinics, junior golf, and golf seminars to be offered for the
local and regional communities. It will include a practice range, indoor
training equipment, and multiple areas for players to work on their short
game.
Individually, Coach Cole is slated
to complete his USGTF training this summer and will become a Level III
Instructor.
“The strength of the USGTF is that
the training focuses on teaching the golf swing and offers an exuberant
amount of teaching and training aids to assist player development – that’s
very important at the collegiate level!”
An avid supporter of Junior Golf,
Coach Cole has participated in programs for the Carolina Golf Association (CGA),
Hank Haney’s International Junior Golf Association (IJGA), and the Under
Armour Gofl Combines. He is very committed to recruiting the very best
student/athletes available that will help Wesleyan move toward the top of
Division III golf.
“Great athletes like challenges and
excel in the spotlight. I look for players that are not afraid to work hard
and enjoy the athletic gift they possess.”
In addition to coaching role, Cole
also works in NCWC’s Development Office as an Associate Director. |
