Hot-shooting Cobb leads Bishops 73-67 road win at Randolph

Lynchburg, VA - Behind the hot shooting of senior Jarvis Cobb, the men's basketball team of North Carolina Wesleyan earned a 73-67 road victory on Wednesday night at Randolph College.  Cobb (pictured) poured in a season-high 21 points and knocked down 6-of-11 three-point attempts.  With the win, Wesleyan moves to 7-5 on the season and has now won three of its last four games.

Down eight points early in the first half, the WildCats fought back to tie the score 21-21 on a Terell Johnson lay-up with seven minutes remaining in the period. The Bishops answered with a three-pointer by Cobb and a jumper by Buddy Williams to go back on top.  Wesleyan would take a 37-30 lead into the locker room.

Cobb finished the half with a team-high of 13 points. Hamilton led Randolph with nine first-half points.

In the second half, a three-pointer by Michael Creef brought the WildCats to within four points at 45-41with 15:40 remaining. Back-to-back three-pointers by the Bishops, however, extended Wesleyan's lead.

A jumper by Robert Woods gave the Bishops their biggest lead at 15 points with 8:22 left in regulation, but a lay-up by Creef and a six-for-six performance from the free throw line capped an 8-2 Randolph run that saw the Wildcats pull within nine points with 5:27 on the clock.

Tim Clarke hit a jumper for Randolph at the 1:16 mark to make the score 68-62 in favor of the Battling Bishops. Several missed foul shots by NCWC gave Randolph opportunities for a comeback in the final minute of play, but the WildCats could get no closer than four points.

The WildCats (4-6) were led by the 17-point performance of Clarke. Hamilton notched 15 points, while Creef tallied 11. Jimmy Greene grabbed a team-high of eight rebounds.

For the Bishops, Trey Drake and Lenny Hall each added 12 points each to compliment Cobb.  Junior Buddy Williams grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

The Bishops will now enjoy nine-day gameless stretch before opening USA South Conference play next Saturday, January 19th, at Shenandoah University.  Game time is slated for 4:00 p.m. in Winchester, VA.
