Hall completes Bishops' historic night in 123-88 rout of CNU

Rocky Mount, NC - In what turned out to be a historic night for many reasons, the Battling Bishop men's basketball team of North Carolina Wesleyan earned its first USA South win of the season on Tuesday evening, turning in a 123-88 rout of rival Christopher Newport in Everett Gymnasium.  The Bishops not only got to see senior Lenny Hall (pictured) become the program's all-time leading scorer, but as a team, Wesleyan set two more records with its 18 three-pointers made and 123 points.  Head coach John Thompson's Bishops are now 8-6 overall, 1-1 in league play.  The Captains drop to 4-11, 0-2.

Wesleyan never trailed as the Bishops scored the first seven points of the contest.  CNU battled back to pull within one at 17-16 with 13:22 remaining in the period, but the Bishops answered with a 22-6 run over the next seven minutes behind the hot-shooting of Trey Drake, Jarvis Cobb, and Jarmel Arrington.  The trio of guards combined for eight three-pointers in the period.

The Bishops had four players reach double-figures in the first half alone and shot 59 percent from the floor as a team.  NCWC held a 56-41 advantage at the break.

The second half was more of the same as Wesleyan remained on fire from behind the arc.  Hall broke the first record of the night when he netted the 1,777th point of his stellar career with a running jumper in the lane at the 13:15 mark.  His accomplishment seemed to ignite his teammates as Wesleyan raced out to a 37-point lead at one point.

Arrington tallied 19 of his game-high 30 points in the period, nailing six total treys on the night.  Hall finished with 21 points and a game-high seven assists, while Drake and Cobb turned in 17 and 14 points, respectively.  Junior Adam Coleman recorded his second straight double-double with 16 points and 13 boards.

For CNU, Davon Barton led the way with 18 points and seven helpers.  Theo Baker added 16.

Wesleyan hopes to ride Tuesday's high into the weekend. The Bishops travel to Greensboro College on Saturday for a 4:00 p.m. match-up with the Pride.
