Wesleyan men return to action, earn split in Pennsylvania

Aston, PA - The North Carolina Wesleyan men's basketball team returned to action on Monday and Tuesday with two road games near Philadelphia, PA.  The Bishops opened the new year with a dominating 104-60 victory over Penn State-Brandywine on Monday before dropping a heartbreaking 73-71 decision to Neumann College in the final seconds of Tuesday's action. Jarmel Arrington (pictured) averaged over 20 points per game in the two contests to lead the Bishops, who now stand at 9-3 on the season.

On Monday at Brandywine, Wesleyan forged a 60-30 lead at the break and did not look back en route to a 44-point victory.  The Bishops shot nearly 60 percent from the floor on the night, including 52 percent from behind the arc.

Arrington led all scorers with 23 points, while Adam Coleman and Lamont Stokes chipped in 19 and 16 points, respectively. Trey Drake also dished out eight assists and collected four steals.

On Tuesday at Neumann, the Bishops trailed 20-15 midway through the first half but put together a 15-0 run over a four-minute span to go up 30-20 with 6:45 left in the period.  Junior Ivan Butler keyed the run with eight points on 3-of-3 shooting from the floor.  Wesleyan went on to lead 40-32 at the half.

The Bishops led the entire second half, which included a 71-67 advantage with 53 ticks left on the clock. Unfortunately, Neumann (5-6) ended the game with a 6-0 run to steal the victory.

Arrington finished with 19 points and Drake 16 to round out Wesleyan's double-figure scorers. Drake also dished out seven assists.

Neumann shot 56 percent from the floor to NCWC's 47 percent and tallied 22 points off of turnovers.

The Bishops return to action next Tuesday, January 13th, versus Roanoke Bible College at home. Game time is slated for 7:30 p.m. in Everett Gymnasium.
