Strong second half sends
Bishops to 77-71 win over Ferrum

North Carolina Wesleyan shot an
impressive 62 percent in the second half to secure a 77-71
victory over Ferrum College on
Sunday afternoon. The Bishops, who trailed 35-32 at the
break, knocked down 16-of-26 attempts in the period while
holding the Panthers to just 41 percent accuracy.
With the win, NCWC ups its record
to 13-6 overall, 3-3 in the USA South.
The first half featured six ties and four
lead changes before the Panthers could forge a slim
three-point lead at intermission. Ferrum's Derek Mitchell
led all scorers with 16 points in the period, while Jarmel
Arrington paced the Bishops with nine.
In the second half, the Bishops tied the
game at 46-46 with 14:27 remaining on a lay-up by freshman
Alex Murray. Wesleyan proceeded to put together a 7-0 run
that was capped by a Trey Drake three-pointer at the 12:53
mark, and the Bishops would not trail again.
Drake finished with 19 points to lead
Wesleyan, while Arrington and Alphonzo Frazier chipped in 14
points apiece. Lamont Stokes had 10 points to round out
NCWC's double figure scorers.
For the Panthers, Mitchell recorded a
game-high 22 points and 11 rebounds. The Panthers committed
21 turnovers on the day, which resulted in 29 points for the
Bishops.
Wesleyan returns to action next
Saturday when the Bishops travel to Shenandoah University.
Game time is slated for 4:00 p.m. in Winchester.
