Bishop men cruise to 107-71 road victory at Roanoke Bible

Elizabeth City, NC - The North Carolina Wesleyan men’s basketball team cruised to a 107-71 road victory over Roanoke Bible College on Monday night. Led by junior Alphonzo Frazier’s (pictured) career-high 19 points and 12 rebounds, the Bishops used two 12-2 runs in the second half to pull away from the Flames, who trailed by just six at the break.  With the victory, Wesleyan improves to 2-0 on the young season.

RBC held its only lead of the game at 8-6 just three minutes into the contest.  Junior Jarmel Arrington then knocked down the first of his five three-pointer to give the Bishops a one-point lead that they would not relinquish.

Both teams shot around 50 percent in the first half, and each squad committed nine turnovers. NCWC held a slim 46-40 lead at intermission.

The second half saw the Bishops come out much more intense, and soon their six-point lead grew to a 30-point cushion.  The Flames shot just 34 percent in the period, while Wesleyan remained consistent at a 57 percent clip.

NCWC out-rebounded RBC 52-31 on the night and got 36 points from its bench, led by Frazier’s 19. Other Bishops turning in solid performances included Arrington with 19 points and four assists, as well as Adam Coleman with 16 points and seven rebounds. Alex Murray, Trey Drake, and Lamont Stokes also reached double figures with 13, 12, and 11 points, respectively.

For the Flames, Kendall Rankins had 18 points and Terrance Britton 16.

The Bishops return to action this Friday and Saturday when they host the first annual Eastern North Carolina Classic. In addition to NCWC, the tournament will feature Methodist University, Norwich University, and Emory & Henry College. Friday’s games are set for 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. with the Bishops playing the late game.
