Veteran coach Mike
Mosley to join NC Wesleyan hoops staff
Rocky
Mount, NC -
North Carolina Wesleyan head men’s basketball coach John
Thompson has announced the addition of veteran high school
coach Mike Mosley to his staff for the upcoming 2009-2010
hoops season. Mosley, who spent more than 20 years with the
Nash-Rocky Mount school system before his retirement last
spring, is excited to join the Bishops and his long-time
friend on the sidelines.
“John and I have been
friends for many years, and it will be a pleasure to work
with him in this capacity,” said Mosley. “He and Dave Doino
work hard to make sure their players are the best they can
be on and off the court, and I look forward to working with
and learning from them.”
A native of Gary, IN,
Mosley is a 1979 graduate of Bryan College in Dayton, TN
where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in
Education with concentrations in Physical Education and
History. He was a two-year letterwinner for Bryan on the
hardwood, serving as team captain his senior year.
Prior to Bryan, Mosley
competed for two seasons at Lenoir Community College, as
well as two seasons for the Seymour Johnson Air Force Base
Varsity team. The former sergeant, in fact, served active
duty from 1971 to 1975. He later continued his military
career as a member of the North Carolina National Guard from
1985 to 2004.
Mosley joined the high
school teaching and coaching ranks in 1981 at
Smithfield-Selma High School in Smithfield, NC. After brief
stints at Goldsboro Middle School and Williamston High
School, he made his way to the Rocky Mount area and Northern
Nash High School where he coached for 15 seasons, won four
conference championships, made ten NCHSAA playoff
appearances, and garnered Coach of the Year accolades on
four occasions.
Mosley made the move to
Nash Central High School in 2002 as head basketball coach
and Director of Athletics. His tenure with the Bulldogs saw
him earn back-to-back-to-back league titles from 2007 to
2009, while leading his teams to five playoff appearances.
For his efforts, Mosley earned the final three of his seven
Coach of the Year awards, as well as District 3 Coach of the
Year honors this past season. Prior to his recent
retirement, Mosley’s stellar career saw him produce 12
collegiate players.
Well respected throughout
the community, Mosley and his wife, Melba, have one
daughter: Mashanda, who is an attorney.
