Wesleyan soccer
has 19 athletes garner academic recognition

- Head men's soccer coach Jason Kilby is pleased to
announce that 19 of his Bishop players have received
academic recognition by being named to the President's Honor
List or President's List recently released by North Carolina
Wesleyan College. Those on the Honor List must have
maintained at least a 3.75 grade point average over the
spring semester, while those
on the President's List must have maintained at least a 3.25
grade point average. Also of note, the Bishops boasted a GPA
over 3.0 as a team!

The NCWC Department of Athletics is pleased to
announce that former men's soccer defender Kris
Banghart has
been
invited to participate in the 2010 adidas MLS
Player Combine, Major League Soccer announced last
Thursday. Banghart (pictured), who
was
among a list of 62 seniors from 44 Division I
schools, spent the
past three seasons with the University of Denver
after a stellar freshman year with the Bishops in
2006.

tie Captains 1-1, CNU takes tourney title in shootout
Martinsville,
VA -
The Battling Bishop men's soccer team put up a valiant
effort versus nationally-ranked Christopher Newport on
Saturday evening, but Wesleyan was unable to defend its 2008
USA South Tournament crown, falling to the 7th-ranked
Captains by a 4-2 score in penalty kicks. Goals by CNU's
Brian Lybert and Wesleyan's Arkadiusz Trochowski (pictured) led to a 1-1
double overtime tie,
setting up the best-of-five shootout. The championship is
the first-ever
for the Captains, who secured the league's automatic bid to
the NCAA Tournament. The tie leaves NCWC with an
11-7-1 record.

South announces All-Conference awards for fall

- The USA South Athletic
Conference has releaseed its 2009
All-Conference awards for soccer and volleyball,
and North Carolina Wesleyan is pleased to
announce that the Battling Bishops had 15
student-athletes garner recognition among their
respective teams. Leading the way were First
Team selections Brittany Insley and Mackenzie
Tingle of volleyball, as well as men's soccer
First Teamers Edgar Zaldivar and Michael
Muhseler (pictured), who was also tabbed the
league's Rookie of the Year.
