Gudnason earns fourth shutout, NCWC downs VWC 1-0

Virginia Beach, VA - Freshman goalkeeper Porir Gudnason recorded his fourth shutout of the season on Wednesday evening to lead his North Carolina Wesleyan men's soccer team to a 1-0 region win over the homestanding Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan. The current USA South Defensive Player of the Week, Gudnason (pictured) faced nine shots and made three saves to preserve the victory.  NCWC climbs to 9-2 on the season, while VWC now stands at 5-5 overall.

Junior Danny Persson gave the Bishops all the offense they would need with a goal in the 36th minute.  The rebounded score came off a deflected save by VWC keeper Ryan Zmuda. Ousman Sarr, who took the initial shot, was credited with an assist.

The Bishops out-shot the Marlins 14-9 in the match. Zmuda finished with four saves.

Wesleyan returns to USA South action on Saturday at home versus Shenandoah University. Game time is slated for 1:00 p.m. at Scalf Field.
