Greensboro snaps NCWC soccer streak, downs Bishops 2-1

Greensboro, NC - In Saturday's USA South men's soccer action, the homestanding Pride of Greensboro College snapped NC Wesleyan's 28-game league unbeaten streak by downing the 18th-ranked Bishops by a 2-1 score. The streak dated back to the 2004 season and saw NCWC go 26-0-2 during its four-year span. Wesleyan is now 12-3 overall, 4-1 in conference play.

The Pride (10-6-1, 4-1-0 USAC) took a 1-0 lead into the break on a Fredrik Edelund score just 4:41 into the match. Deng Abiel was credited with an assist on the play.

In the second half, Greensboro extended its lead to 2-0 on an unassisted goal by Andrew Clark in the 59th minute. Wesleyan countered with a Ousmann Sarr goal a little over five minutes later on a Arkadiusz Trochowski assist, but it would not be enough as Greensboro held on for the 2-1 victory.

Wesleyan out-shot Greensboro 21-8 in the match and held a 7-3 advantage in shots-on-goal. Unfortunately for the Bishops, GC keeper Kurt Gardiner made seven saves on the day to pick up the victory. Freshman Porir Gudnason suffered the loss for NCWC.

Wesleyan returns to action on Wednesday with a match-up against Lebanon Valley College. The 3:00 p.m. contest will be held in Germantown, MD.
