Schmedes' PK sends Bishops to 3-0 win over Lebanon Valley

Germantown, MD - Junior defender Benjamin Schmedes (pictured) scored on a penalty kick in the 47th minute to break a 0-0 tie at the half, and the Bishops went to score two more unanswered goals as North Carolina Wesleyan defeated Lebanon Valley College by a 3-0 on Wednesday afternoon in Germantown, MD. Wesleyan improves to 13-3 overall with the win and will wrap up its 2008 regular season slate on Saturday versus Christopher Newport at Scalf Field.

Schmedes' PK came at the 46:01 mark of the second half. The Bishops proceeded to tally goals in the 51st and 71st minutes on scores by Owen White and Hlynur Haukson. White also assisted on Haukson's goal.

NCWC keeper Benjamin Kruk earned his fourth shutout of the season in goal, making two saves on nine shots. LVC goalie Tim Mehl recorded four stops on 19 shots and suffered the loss.

Saturday's game versus CNU is slated for 1:00 p.m. With a victory, the Bishops can force a three-way tie atop the league standings, while the Captains can secure their second USA South regular season championship in the past three seasons with a win of their own.
