Ivanovich paces Bishop
men in 7-2 win over Barton College

- Junior Robert Ivanovich netted two goals on Wednesday
afternoon, leading his North Carolina Wesleyan men's soccer
team to a 7-2 victory over Division II rival Barton College
at Scalf Field. Ivanovich (pictured) scored the gamewinner
just six minutes into the game and later tacked on the
Bishops' fifth goal. Both of his goals were assisted
by Danny Persson, who also tallied two scores in the match.
With their fourth straight win, the Bishops move to 4-1 on
the season, while the Bulldogs remain winless at 0-4
overall.
NCWC's Ousman Sarr blasted
a 25-yard shot off a pass from Edgar Zaldivar to up
Wesleyan's lead to 2-0 in the 15th minute. Luke Oakley and
Owen White later sandwiched goals around Barton's first
score for a 4-1 Bishop lead at intermission.
Christopher Helms tallied both assists, while Kelly Cirbo
netted the Bulldogs' goal, unassisted.
In the second half, Barton
got on the board first with a goal by Chris Tripp from 30
yards out. Down
4-2, however, the Bulldogs would get no closer as Ivanovich
and Persson closed out the game with three unanswered goals
for the Bishops. Helms notched his third assist of the
game, while Suilabayu Fon recorded his first of the season.
Wesleyan out-shot Barton
33-10 on the day. BC's Brian Reisenberg amassed 13 saves,
while Josh Cooper came off the bench to tally five of his
own. Benjamin Kruk picked up the win in goal for NCWC,
turning in five saves in the match.
The Bishops travel to
Randolph College on Saturday. Game time is slated for 4:00 p.m.
