Laudrup tallies hat trick, Bishops shut out Averett 9-0

Danville, VA - Freshman Nicolai Laudrup tallied his first collegiate hat trick on Wednesday afternoon, helping his Battling Bishop men's soccer team to a 9-0 shutout of Averett University on the road. Having recorded an assist on the game's fourth goal, Laudrup (pictured) proceeded to notch scores in the 43rd, 56th, and 60th minutes. Winners of seven straight, the Bishops (7-1, 2-0 USAC) have now out-scored their league opponents 22-0 in their first two USA South match-ups.

Wesleyan's Danny Persson gave the Bishops all the offense they would need just 1:58 into the match when he booted home the eventual gamewinner on an assist by Ousman Sarr. Owen White found Edgar Zaldivar 10 minutes later for a 2-0 NCWC lead, while White notched a goal of his own in the 17th minute on an assist by Hlynur Hauksson.  Persson then tallied his second goal of the period in the 37th minute before Laudrup closed out the first half scoring at the 42:21 mark.

The second period saw Laudrup score the Bishops first two goals for a 7-0 lead. Tom Sharp and Gudmundur Palsson recorded assists, respectively, while Gene Kemble and Alhaji Koroma connected on the game's final scores on assists by Adam Hanifee and Sharp.  Kemble's goal from Hanifee came on one of Wesleyan's seven corner kicks in the contest.

The Bishops out-shot the Cougars 40-2 in the match. NCWC keeper Porir Gudnason made one save in goal en route to the the shutout. Joe Dusewicz and Justin Price split time between the pipes for Averett, combining to make 18 saves on the day.

The Bishops will take a break from USA South play on Saturday when they travel to the University of Mary Washington. Game time is slated for 2:00 p.m. in Fredericksburg, VA.
