UMW snaps NCWC's seven-game winning streak with 1-0 win

Fredericksburg, VA - In men's soccer action on Saturday, the University of Mary Washington snapped North Carolina Wesleyan's seven-game winning streak with a 1-0 win in Fredericksburg, VA. UMW's Preston Hirten scored the Eagles' lone goal in the 49th minute, unassisted, and goalkeeper Emmett Rutkowski did the rest by preserving the shutout defensively.  The Bishops are now 7-2 overall. Both losses have come in 1-0 affairs.

Wesleyan out-shot UMW 18-5 on the day, but Rutkowski made six saves between the pipes to help the Eagles move to 6-2-1 on the season.  The Bishops were also awarded 10 corner kicks to UMW's one, but they were unable to capitalize.

NCWC's Porir Gudnason suffered the loss in goal, making two saves in the match.

The Bishops will return USA South play next Saturday when they travel to league rival Methodist University. Game time is slated for 3:00 p.m. in Fayetteville.
