Herrera nets gamewinner,
NCWC shuts out Greensboro 4-0
Rocky Mount, NC -
Behind freshman Irvin Herrera's second gamewinning goal of
the season, the North Carolina Wesleyan men's soccer team
cruised to a 4-0 shutout of Greensboro College on Saturday
afternoon at Scalf Field. Herrera (pictured) gave the
Bishops all the offense they would need when he booted home
a through-ball from Javier Castrillo at the 10-minute mark.
Wesleyan finishes the regular season with a 10-7 overall
record with a 5-1 USA South mark.
A penalty kick by Ousman Sarr in the 37th
minute gave the Bishops a 2-0 lead at the break, while
freshman Michael Muhseler netted a pair of goals in the
second half. Both were assisted by sophomore Owen White.
NCWC keeper Benjamin Kruk earned his
second straight shutout in goal, making three saves on six
Pride shots. GC's Chad Adams faced 20 shots and made five
saves for Greensboro.
With the victory, Wesleyan secured its
second consecutive runner up finish in the USA South regular
season standings. As the league's #2 seed, the Bishops
receive a bye in the first round of the conference
tournament and will face the winner of #3 Methodist / #6
Shenandoah on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Martinsville, VA.
Wesleyan will be attempting to defend its 2008 tournament
title.
