Wesleyan men's soccer drops 2-1 decision to York College

Greensboro, NC - North Carolina Wesleyan's men's soccer team competed this past weekend at the Doug Hamilton Memorial Tournament hosted by Greensboro College.  The Battling Bishops dropped a tough 2-1 decision to York College (PA) on Saturday before rebounding with a 2-0 win over Cape Fear in Sunday's exhibition match.  Wesleyan is now 2-2-0 on the season.

On Saturday, the Bishops gave up a quick goal to YC's Travis Williams at the 11:06 mark on a successful penalty kick. York took the 1-0 lead into the break before NCWC's Javier Castrillo knotted the score at 1-1 with a goal in the 63rd minute off an assist by senior Robert Ivanovich.

The game looked to be headed for overtime until York's Jon Ports netted the gamewinner with just 2:57 remaining on the clock.  YC out-shot NCWC 14-11 in the match and held a 3-2 advantage in corners.

In Sunday's exhibition, Wesleyan's Ousman Sarr and Michael Muhseler each notched scores, while Philipp Uttikal earned the shutout in goal.

Wesleyan returns to action on Wednesday when the Bishops host Randolph College. Game time is slated for 4:00 p.m. at Scalf Field, and the match will feature both live stats and webcasting.
