Battling Bishop men turn in 2-0 shutout over Randolph

Rocky Mount, NC - The Battling Bishop men's soccer team turned in a 2-0 shutout over Randolph College on Wednesday afternoon at Scalf Field. After the two squads fought to a scoreless tie at the half, senior Edgar Zaldivar (pictured) delivered an assist to Owen White in 62nd minute for the eventual gamewinner.  Wesleyan went on to add an insurance goal just 26 seconds later.  The Bishops are now 3-2 on the season, while the Wildcats drop to 1-4-1 overall.

NCWC out-shot Randolph just 5-3 in the opening period but erupted for 18 shots in the final 45 minutes of play. Zaldivar's through ball at the 61:06 mark saw White blast a one-timer to the right of Wildcat keeper Aaron Humphreys. Seconds later, White found Florian Bertalan in the box for a 15-yard shot that also found the back of the net.

Despite giving up the two goals, Humphreys kept the Wildcats in the game by making seven saves. NCWC keeper Philipp Uttikal made four saves on ten shots to secure the shutout for the Bishops.

Wesleyan returns to action on Saturday when the Bishops host Division II Catawba College. Game time is slated for 12:00 p.m. at Scalf Field.
