Wesleyan men fall to
Division II Catawba by a 3-2 score
Rocky
Mount, NC
- After fighting to a 1-1 tie at the break, Catawba College
netted two second half goals to down North Carolina Wesleyan
by a 3-2 score in Saturday's non-conference men's soccer
action at Scalf Field. The Indians tallied scores in the
68th and 83rd minutes to down the Battling Bishops, who now
stand at 3-3-0 on the season.
NCWC got on the board first
when freshman Michael Muhseler booted home a deflected shot
by Edgar Zaldivar in the box at the 32:41 mark. Catawba
answered with a goal by Andrew Landry just minutes before
intermission. Landry headed home a perfect corner kick by
Alain Lengliz to knot the score at 1-1.
In the second half,
Muhseler struck again when he netted a through ball from
Zaldivar in the 55th minute. The 2-1 lead, however,
would not stand as the Indians (3-4-0) answered with scores
by Kevin Sorensen and Carson Smith.
NCWC keeper Philipp Uttikal
suffered his first loss in goal, making seven saves on 14
Indian shots. Catawba goalie Tyler Held tallied 10 saves on
27 Bishop shots.
NC
Wesleyan returns to action on Wednesday when the Bishops
host regional rival Virginia Wesleyan College. Game time is slated for
4:00 p.m. at Scalf
Field and will feature both live stats and webcasting.
