Marlins down Battling Bishops 3-0 at Scalf Field

Rocky Mount, NC - Virginia Wesleyan forward Clay Price scored a hat trick on Wednesday afternoon at Scalf Field to help his Marlins down the Battling Bishops by a 3-0 score in rainy conditions.  North Carolina Wesleyan out-shot VWC 15-11 in the match, but Marlin keeper Ryan Zmuda made six saves to preserve the shutout. With the win, Virginia Wesleyan moves to 6-1-1 on the season, while NCWC now stands at 3-4-0 overall.

Price's first score came just 7:13 into the match when Nick Forno crossed a ball from the right for a one-timer in the box.  VWC took the 1-0 lead into the break as neither team could maintain an offensive rhythm amongst the heavy downpours.

The second half saw both squads create more scoring opportunities with Price netting unassisted goals in the 62nd and 88th minutes on a chip and a breakaway, respectively. The Bishops had two shots hit the post in the period, and Zmuda cleaned up the rest for the 3-0 final. NCWC keeper Philipp Uttikal made five saves on the day.

The Battling Bishops return to action next Tuesday when they travel to Roanoke College. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m.
