The
History: The Battling Bishops are a
perennial powerhouse in Division III soccer and have built a strong
tradition here at North Carolina Wesleyan. Since 1964, the team has
accumulated over 300 wins, while other accolades include five USA South
(formerly Dixie) Regular Season Championships, two
USA South Tournament Championships, seven NCAA
tournament appearances, seven All-Americans, and countless All-Region players.
The
Battling Bishops turned in back-to-back undefeated regular seasons in 2006
and 2007, as well as back-to-back Sweet 16 appearances in the NCAA National
Tournament. Most recently, Wesleyan captured the 2008 USA South
Tournament Championship (pictured above)!
The Schedule... NCWC plays the maximum
schedule allowed by the NCAA. During the traditional fall season,
the Bishops consistently play top opponents from Divisions I, II, and III.
Past and present non-conference opponents include Campbell, Duke, Liberty,
East Carolina, Emory, Virginia Wesleyan, Mary Washington, Maryville,
Hampden-Sydney, and Bethany, among others. NCWC also hosts a Fall Classic
two-day tournament every September. In addition, the Bishops play a very
strong spring schedule against many local rivals such as Barton, Mt. Olive,
and Duke.
The Bishop men’s soccer program is year-round and very
demanding both physically and mentally. It is built around serious
student-athletes who have the drive to practice, compete, and weight train
year-round. We are constantly pursuing a National Championship! |
