Wesleyan tennis wraps up
stellar season in NCAA

The men's tennis team of
NC
Wesleyan saw its stellar
2010 season come to an
end on Tuesday afternoon
as the Bishops fell to
top-ranked Middlebury by
a 5-0 score in NCAA
Tournament quarterfinal
action. The loss was
just the second of the
season for the
11th-ranked Bishops, who
set a new program record
for wins this spring
with 18. Head
Coach
Dominic Modise's squad
has now wrapped up the
best season in program
history with an 18-2
overall record,
including two victories
over top-10 teams,
back-to-back USA South
Regular Season and
Tournament
Championships, and the
program's first-ever
top-10 ranking, Regional
Championship and NCAA
Elite 8 appearance.

Battling Bishops of
North Carolina Wesleyan
can call themselves
regional champions! NCWC
earned its first-ever
national quarterfinal
berth with a thrilling
come-from-behind 5-3
victory over host Johns
Hopkins University on
Sunday afternoon. The
Bishops, who fell behind
3-0 in doubles action,
rebounded to sweep
singles play and advance
to quarterfinal play in
Oberlin, OH.

Vassar College in NCAA Regional action

- Since securing the 2010 USA South Tournament Championship over two weeks ago in
Burlington, the men's tennis team of North Carolina Wesleyan
College has been anxiously awaiting its fate for the
upcoming NCAA Division III Tournament. On Monday, head
coach Dominic Modise got the announcement that his Battling
Bishops will face Vassar College in Saturday's regional action hosted by
Johns Hopkins. more

Carolina Wesleyan's top-seeded men's
tennis team won the 2010 USA South Tournament
Championship
on Sunday with a 6-3 victory over 2nd-seeded CNU.
With the victory, the Bishops, who are currently
ranked #10 in the nation, earned the program's
second consecutive Conference Tournament title
and now boast a 16-1 record on the season
heading into the NCAA Tournament.

The USA South has announced its
All-Conference awards for baseball, tennis, softball,
lacrosse and golf. North Carolina Wesleyan had 24
athletes earn recognition, while six Bishops were named to
their respective All-Sportsmanship teams. Among the 20
honorees, there were four First Team honorees, eight Second
Team picks, three Third Team selections, and nine Honorable
Mentions. Leading the way were head coaches Charlie
Long and Dominic Modise, who each earned Coach of the Year
accolades for the second consecutive season.
