Wesleyan men's
tennis squad
picked up a
thrilling 5-4
win over
visiting Ferrum
College at home
on Sunday.
The victory gave
the Bishops a
split of weekend
USA South
matches as NCWC
had previously
fallen to
Averett on
Saturday by a
6-3 score.
Wesleyan is now
3-2 overall, 2-1
in conference
play.
On Sunday,
Ferrum jumped
out to a 2-1
lead in doubles
play.
NCWC's lone
point came at
the third slot
where the Bishop
duo of Daniel
Pace and Drew
McLachlan were
8-4 winners over
the Panthers'
Bob Dill and
Kevin Board.
Wesleyan battled
back in singles
action as Matt
Smith, McLachlan,
and Kyle
McCandless were
straight-set
winners at the
#3, #5, and #6
seeds,
respectively.
With the match
tied at 4-4, the
stage was set
for Harrison's
heroics.
The junior
initially fell
behind FC's
Brian Cassidy by
dropping the
first set 6-4.
He then battled
back for a
momentum-changing
7-5 win in the
second set
before closing
out the match
with a 6-2 win
in the third.
Previously on
Saturday,
Wesleyan fell at
Averett by a 6-3
score.
Pace and
McLachlan once
again earned
NCWC's lone
doubles point
with an 8-0
sweep at the
third slot,
while McLachlan
and McCandless
posted wins in
singles action
to round out the
Bishops'
scoring.
Wesleyan returns to
action on Monday when
the Bishops host
Methodist University.
Match time is slated for
5:30 p.m.
