Wesleyan men down Ferrum,
win thriller over Chowan
Rocky Mount, NC
- The men’s team of
North Carolina Wesleyan
won its final two
regular season matches
this week, downing
Ferrum 8-1 on Sunday
before winning a 5-4
thriller over Chowan on
Wednesday. Sunday's
victory over the
Panthers sealed the
3rd-seed in the USA
South, while Wednesday's
win moved the Bishops
one step closer to their
first winning season
since the program was
reinstated in 1999.
Wesleyan will enter this
weekend's conference
tournament with an 8-7
overall record.
At Ferrum, the Bishops
cruised to an 8-1 win.
Wesleyan swept singles
play, while the
Panthers' lone point
came at #2 doubles.
In their home finale,
the Bishops avenged an
early season loss to the
Hawks with thrilling 5-4
win. Wesleyan took a key
2-1 lead in doubles play
and went on to go 3-3 in
singles action. Mike
Harrison's win at the
5th-seed proved to be
the difference. It was
fitting end considering
that Harrison was
honored prior to the
Senior Day match.
Wesleyan will now
prepare for the first
round of the USA South
Conference Tournament.
Friday's match will pit
the Bishops against
6th-seeded Ferrum at
1:00 p.m. Complete
