Bishop men give Modise first NCWC coaching victory

Durham, NC - The men's tennis team of North Carolina Wesleyan took advantage of tie-break victories at #3 and #4 singles to down North Carolina Central University by a 6-3 score on Wednesday in Durham. The victory is the first at Wesleyan for head coach Dominic Modise (pictured) and evens the Bishops' season record at 1-1 overall.

In doubles action, the top-seeded doubles tandem of Antti Saari and Brandon Coleman upped their record to 2-0 with an 8-5 win over NCCU's Trey Chapman and Bryan Jackson. Mike Harrison and Kalpesh Patel teamed up at #3 singles for an 8-6 victory over John Stephenson and Stephen Allsop.

Wesleyan added to its 2-1 lead with another straight-set win by Saari at #1 singles. Dustin Hale, Matt Smith, and Mike Harrison also recorded victories at the third, fourth, and fifth slots, respectively.  Like Saari, Smith also remains undefeated in singles play.

NCCU's Jackson and Allsop captured singles victories for the Eagles, while Jermaine Byrd and Joseph Estevez teamed up to win at #2 doubles.

Wesleyan's men return to action on Saturday when Southern Virginia University visits Rocky Mount.  Match time is slated for 1:00 p.m. at the NCWC Tennis Complex.
