Bishop tennis splits with Emory & Henry by 8-1 scores

Greensboro, NC - In men's and women's tennis action, the Battling Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan split a pair of matches against Emory & Henry on Sunday afternoon in Greensboro. Wesleyan's men were 8-1 winners, while the women fell by the same score. Coupled with last week's losses to Virginia State, the Bishop men and women are now 2-3 and 0-6, respectively.

On the men's side, freshman Antti Saari won both of his #1 singles matches this past week, winning in straight sets against VSU and picking up a default win against Emory & Henry. Kalpesh Patel also swept his #6 singles matches, earning the first two victories of his collegiate career.

In a 5-4 loss to Virginia State, the Bishops' other two points came at #1 and #3 doubles. Saari and Brandon Coleman remained undefeated at the top slot, while Mike Harrison and Matt Smith teamed up for their second win at the third seed.

Against Emory & Henry, the Wasps lone point came at #2 singles where Dan Mannsman defeated Coleman by an 8-2 score.

On the women's side, the Bishops lost 9-0 and 8-1 matches.  Freshman Jaime Galasso earned Wesleyan's point against E&H with a straight-set win at #1 singles over Kaylee Gallant (6-1, 6-2). She is now 4-2 on the season.

The Battling Bishop men and women will travel to Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday. The match is slated for a 3:00 p.m. start in Virginia Beach.
