| Program Overview
NCWC Tennis is a "new" program with a rich tradition. How can a
tennis
program be old and young at the same time? Wesleyan tennis was a
dominant program in the 1970's winning conference championships in 1973, 1975
and 1976. In 1977, however, the team was discontinued due to the
financial constraints of the College. It was not reinstated until 1998.
Since that time, the men's program has experienced a
rebirth that began with the hiring of head coach Dominic Modise two seasons
ago. Modise has
already guided the Battling Bishops to two winning seasons, including a
near-perfect 15-1 record in 2009. The 2009 season, in fact, saw Modise earn USA South Coach of the Year honors after leading
NCWC to a 6-0 mark in USA South play and the regular season league
title, as well as
the USAC Tournament Championship, a regional final appearance in NCAA
Tournament play, and a #16 final national ranking!
Practice and home
matches are held at our tennis complex on campus built in 1997 and paid for
through the generosity of many friends of the program including some former
tennis players.<%else%>

The program is year-round with the traditional season beginning in the
spring. Like all other NCWC athletics, tennis competes in the USA
South Conference, a conference with many competitive programs loaded with
tennis tradition. All athletics at NCWC compete at the NCAA Division
III level, therefore, Wesleyan does not offer athletic scholarships.
However, over 80% of our students receive some sort of need based or
academic based financial aid.
The program is demanding both physically and mentally. For that
reason, we expect 100% from our student athletes. Wesleyan
student-athletes are students first, and are expected to be highly
motivated in the classroom and ambassadors of the College. Academic
achievement is of utmost importance.
Wesleyan tennis is looking for good students, good athletes, and good
people. Team members not only represent themselves, they also
represent the team and the College. For this reason, members of the
Wesleyan tennis team are expected to be outstanding in all that they do.
