Meredith downs Wesleyan in volleyball home opener, 3-1

Rocky Mount, NC - After dropping game one by a 30-22 score, the Angels of Meredith College came back to sweep games two, three, and four for a 3-1 win over North Carolina Wesleyan, ruining the 2006 volleyball home opener for the Bishops.  Meredith earns its first win of the season and is now 1-4, while Wesleyan drops to 0-5 on the young season.  Game scores were 22-30, 30-23, 30-11, and 30-16.

Wesleyan rode the impressive play of freshman Brittany Insley to a game one win.  Insley tallied a career-high 19 kills and 10 digs in the losing effort.

After taking game game two by a 30-23 score, it was all Meredith in game three as the Angels jumped out to a 13-0 lead.  They never looked back in sealing the 3-1 win.

Lauren Powers led Meredith with 17 kills.  Laura Sayabouth turned in 22 assists and 11 service aces, while freshman Rocky Mount native Anna Taylor tallied six service aces of her own.  Sara Elliot anchored the Angel defensive effort with 15 digs.

In addition too Insley's play, Caitlin George recorded season-high 35 assists and 10 digs.

The Bishops will travel to Roanoke College this coming weekend for a four-game tournament, beginning with Friday’s 4:00 p.m. match with Sweet Briar College.
