Wesleyan netters cruise to 3-0 sweep
of Salem College

- The Battling Bishop volleyball
squad took a brief break from USA
South play on Wednesday night when
Wesleyan hosted the Spirits of Salem
College. Riding a three-game winning
streak, there was no let-down by
head coach Robin Pietryk's squad as
the Bishops cruised to a 3-0 sweep.
Set scores were 25-14, 25-14, and
25-19. Sophomore Alyssa Balzano
(pictured) recorded three blocks and
a .500 hitting percentage to lead
all players. The Bishops
improve to 14-6 with the win, while
Salem drops to 4-12 on the season.
Other leaders for the Bishops
included Brittany Insley with a
game-high nine kills and Mackenzie
Tingle with 24 assists. Tingle also
turned in four service aces, while
freshman Brooke Davis added five of
her own. Sophomore libero Kelly
George had 10 digs defensively.
For
Salem, Katie Lineberger notched a
team-high seven kills, and Sarah
Maher dished out nine assists.
The Spirits recorded a -.100 hitting
percentage over the three sets,
which essentially put the match out
of reach.
Wesleyan will hosts a USA South Play
Day on Saturday in Everett
Gymnasium. The Bishops will
face Shenandoah University at noon,
while the Hornets will take on Peace
College at 2:00. Wesleyan will
then wrap up the day with a 4:00
match-up with the Pacers.
Saturday will also serve as the
Bishops' 2008 Parent's Day.
