NCWC volleyball wins sixth straight;
Insley honored for kills

- On 2008 Parent's Day, the
volleyball squad of North Carolina
Wesleyan won its fifth and sixth
straight matches with 3-0 sweeps of
Shenandoah and Peace in Saturday's
USA South Play Day hosted by the
Bishops. Prior to the day's
final match, head coach Robin
Pietryk recognized junior Brittany
Insley's all-time kills record that
she broke on September 13th versus
Greensboro. Insley has already
eclipsed 1,200 career kills in just
her third season, shattering the
previous record of 1,082.
Against Shenandoah (4-12, 0-8 USAC),
the Bishops turned in an impressive
.382 team hitting percentage en
route to 25-14, 25-14, 25-5 wins.
Insley led the way with a game-high
11 kills and four blocks, while
freshman Mackenzie Tingle notched 27
assists. Leslie Hassell and
Sydney Bens each recorded seven
kills, and Barbara DeRatt added five
to go along with three assists.
Libero Kelly George paced the NCWC
defense with seven digs.
Against Peace (10-9, 3-6 USAC),
Wesleyan again out-hit its opponent
with 38 kills compared to the
Pacers' 18 en route to 25-15, 25-15,
25-18 wins. Perhaps most
impressively, the Bishops recorded
20 service aces and were led by
Hassell's career-high nine.
Alyssa Balzano and Insley each had
four, while Insley added 11 kills,
nine digs, and three blocks.
George again paced the defensive
effort with 10 digs, and Tingle
finished with 30 assists.
Wesleyan is now 16-6 overall, 8-2 in
USA South play. The Bishops
will be in action again on Tuesday
when non-conference foe Guilford
College visits Everett Gymnasium.
Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m.
