Bens paces Wesleyan netters in fifth
straight 3-0 sweep

- North Carolina Wesleyan's
volleyball squad earned its fifth
straight 3-0 sweep on Wednesday
night by downing USA South foe
Meredith College in Everett
Gymnasium. Set scores were 25-16,
25-15, and 25-13. Senior Sydney Bens
(pictured) led all players with a
game-high 14 kills and impressive
.480 hitting percentage.
The Bishops have now won eight
straight matches to improve to 18-6
on the season, 9-2 in conference
action. With the loss, the Angels
drop to 7-16 overall, 5-7 in league
play.
Wesleyan never trailed in any set
and hit an impressive .317 as a team
on the night. In addition to Bens'
performance, junior Brittany Insley
tallied 10 kills, while freshman
Mackenzie Tingle dished out 36
assists and had 10 digs. Sophomore
libero Kelly George turned in
another solid defensive outing with
a game-high 17 digs.
The
Angels hit just .078 as team in the
match and were led by Morgan White's
10 kills. Laura Sayabouth chipped in
21 assists, and libero MaryBeth
Finegan added a team-high 14 digs.
The
Bishops will travel to Shenandoah
University on Saturday. Wesleyan
will take on Peace College at 2:00
p.m. before taking on the host
Hornets at 4:00 p.m. NCWC recorded
3-0 sweeps over both squad earlier
in the season.
