Tingle leads Bishop volleyball squad
to 10th straight victory
Winchester,
VA
- Freshman setter Mackenzie Tingle
(pictured) totaled 80 assists in two
matches on Saturday afternoon to
lead her North Carolina Wesleyan
volleyball squad to two USA South
victories over Peace College and
Shenandoah University. The Bishops
downed the Pacers and host Hornets
by 3-2 and 3-0 scores, respectively.
Wesleyan has now won 10 straight
matches to improve to an impressive
20-6 on the season. More
importantly, the Bishops stand alone
as the league's second place team
with an 11-2 conference mark.
Against Peace, set scores were
14-25, 25-15, 25-20, 25-27, and
15-7. The Pacers looked to pick up a
major upset by forcing a fifth and
deciding game. The Bishops,
however, responded with their
highest single-game hitting
percentage of the match at .444 with
nine kills against just one error to
secure the victory.
Junior Brittany Insley led all
players with 15 kills, while Leslie
Hassell and Sydney Bens added 14 and
12. Tingle finished with 47 assists,
and Kelly George recorded a
game-high 24 digs.
Against Shenandoah, set scores were
25-17, 25-20, and 27-25. Insley
again led all players in kills with
14, and Tingle dished out 33 more
assists. As a team, the Bishops
amassed 13 service aces, led by
sophomore Alyssa Balzano's eight.
The
Bishops will host Chowan University
on Tuesday night. Game time is
slated for 6:00 p.m. in Everett
Gymnasium. The game, which was
originally scheduled for 6:30 p.m.,
was moved up 30 minutes to
accommodate several student-athletes
wishing to participate in the
Bishops' "DIG PINK" event, a breast
cancer awareness initiative.
