Insley breaks career blocks
record, NCWC downs Monarchs 3-1
Rocky
Mount, NC
- Senior Brittany Insley continued
her assault on North Carolina Wesleyan's volleyball record
book on Wednesday night, setting yet another career mark
with the 392nd block of her four-year tenure with the
Bishops. Insley (pictured) tallied 15 kills, 15 digs, and
five blocks in the match as Wesleyan downed Methodist
University by a 3-1 score in Everett Gymnasium (27-25,
22-25, 25-23, 25-20). With the victory, NCWC moves to 6-0 in
USA South play and is now 10-7 on the season.
The milestone block came on the
third point of the first set when Insley rejected an attack
attempt by MU's Jalesty Washington. The record is now one of
three career records that the Arlington, OH native currently
owns. She also ranks first in program history in attack
attempts and kills.
After the block, NCWC went
on to forge a 10-2 advantage before the Monarchs put
together an 8-0 rally to tie the game at 10-10. The set was
back-and-forth from there on with the Bishops fighting off
one game point and scoring three of the final four points to
secure the 27-25 win.
The Monarchs took game two
by a 25-22 score behind the impressive play of freshman
Stephanie Wood and a match-high .351 hitting percentage.
After forging a 18-16 lead
in the third set, MU looked to take a 2-1 lead in the match,
but the Bishops reeled off five straight points to pull
ahead. An Insley kill eventually gave Wesleyan a 25-23
victory.
The fourth set was all
Bishops as NCWC raced out to a 20-10 advantage. Methodist
rallied to pull within two points at 22-20 only to see
Mackenzie Tingle, Insley, and Barbara DeRatt record
back-to-back-to-back kills to end the set and match.
In addition to Insley's
performance, Leslie Hassell and DeRatt turned in 13 and 12
kills, respectively, as Wesleyan recorded a .244 hitting
percentage as a team. Tingle finished with 44 assists, and
Kelly George had 15 digs.
For Methodist (11-5, 5-4
USAC), Wood tallied a game-high 21 kills and Washington
added 16. Kayci Miller dished out 43 assists, while Jordan
Grady led the defensive effort with a game-high 28 digs.
The Bishops return to
action on Saturday when they travel to Shenandoah University
for a USA South Play Day with the Hornets and Peace College.
Wesleyan takes on Peace at 1:00 p.m. and Shenandoah at 3:00
p.m., respectively.
