NCWC volleyball earns 3-1 non-conference win over Guilford

Rocky Mount, NC - The Battling Bishop volleyball team earned a 3-1 non-conference win over Guilford College on Friday night in Everett Gymnasium. Set scores were 23-25, 25-15, 25-17, and 28-26. Wesleyan was led by senior Brittany Insley (pictured), who fell just two blocks shy of a triple-double with 19 kills, 10 digs, and eight blocks in the match.  With the victory, the Battling Bishops move to 13-9 on the season, while Guilford drops to 7-11 overall.

In addition to Insley's performance, sophomore Leslie Hassell turned in a season-high 17 kills, while Barbara DeRatt added eight. Mackenzie Tingle dished out a game-high 45 assists, and junior Kelly George led the defensive effort with 24 digs.

For Guilford, Anna Miller and Brittany Freeman recorded 13 and 11 kills, respectively. Taylor Phillips had 39 assists on the night, while Courtney Kosar and Bethany Hawks turned in 14 digs apiece.

As a team, the Bishops turned in a .213 hitting percentage to the Quakers’ .158. NCWC also won the blocking battle with 8.0 total rejections to GC’s 6.0 on the night.

Wesleyan returns to USA South action on Wednesday night when the Bishops travel to Meredith College for a 7:00 p.m. match-up with the Avenging Angels.
