Tip-Off Classic
Allentown,
PA
- The North Carolina Wesleyan
women's basketball team opened up
its 2006-07 schedule over the
weekend at the Muhlenberg College
Tip-Off Classic. The Bishops
dropped two games, falling by a
75-48 score on Friday night to host
Muhlenberg before dropping a 69-46
contest to Cortland State in
Saturday's consolation game.
Senior April Wilson (pictured)
averaged over ten points and six
rebounds in the tournament.
On
Friday, Muhlenberg forged a 34-25
lead at the break and went on to
secure the win by shooting 43
percent in the second half.
The Bishops shot just 30 percent
from the floor in the game.
Wilson paced Wesleyan with nine
points and nine rebounds.
Junior Lawanda Scott and freshmen
Nicole Williams and Shameika
Faircloth each chipped in the eight
points apiece.
On
Saturday, both Wesleyan and Cortland
State struggled to find an offensive
rhythm in the first half, but CSU
managed to build a slight 29-22
advantage at halftime. The
final period, however, saw Cortland
out-score the Bishops 40-24 en route
to the 23-point victory.
Wilson again led NCWC with a
team-high 12 points, while fellow
senior J.D. Richardson knocked down
a trio of three-pointers and
finished with 11 points. Liz
Ansley narrowly missed her first
double-double of the season with
eight points and nine boards.
The
Bishops (0-2) will travel to Salem
College on Tuesday for a 5:30 p.m.
match-up with the Spirits.
NCWC twice defeated Salem last
season.
