Chowan comes from behind to
down Bishops, 61-46

- The North Carolina
Wesleyan women’s basketball
team had its brief two-game
win streak snapped on
Wednesday night, falling to
Chowan University by a 61-46
score in Everett Gymnasium.
The Bishops, who led for
majority of the game, drop
to 2-3 on the season. With
the win, the Hawks improve
to 4-1.
Wesleyan managed a 25-19
halftime lead after shooting
43.5 percent from the
floor. Plagued by 18
turnovers in the period, the
Bishops missed opportunities
to add to their lead as
Chowan closed the half on a
12-5 run to pull to within
six.
In the second half, the
Bishops again struggled to
find an offensive rhythm.
Wesleyan managed to keep its
lead until a Tyshaunna
Winston free throw put
Chowan on top for the first
time 41-40 with 7:57
remaining. Winston promptly
stole Wesleyan’s in-bounds
pass and converted the
lay-up, igniting a 13-0 Hawk
run that essentially put the
game out of reach.
Chowan shot 43.2 percent in
the second half and
collected 13 steals.
Wesleyan managed just 16
shots in the period to
finish the game at 41
percent accuracy.
AJ O’Bannion paced the Hawks
with a game-high 16 points.
Alicia McMorris added 12
points, four assists, and
four steals.
Wesleyan was led by J.D.
Richardson, who netted a
team-high 12 points on
4-of-7 shooting. Lawanda
Scott added 10, while April
Wilson grabbed a game-high
nine rebounds.
The Bishop women will now
break for exams and the
Christmas holidays before
returning to action at the
Fairleigh-Dickinson Holiday
Tournament on January 5th
and 6th.
