Lady Panthers come from behind to down Bishops, 92-83

Rocky Mount, NC - League-leading Ferrum College had its hands full on Sunday afternoon, coming from behind to down a determined North Carolina Wesleyan squad by a 92-83 score in Everett Gymnasium.  The Bishops led by as many as 11 in the second half only to see the Panthers mount a late comeback and steal the win. Ferrum improves to 11-6 on the season, 9-1 in league play, while Wesleyan now stands at 5-11 overall, 2-8 in USA South action.

The Bishops never trailed in the first half as they forged a 42-35 lead at the break.  Juniors Essence Chambers and Shawnte Dickens combined for 20 points, while as a team, Wesleyan knocked down five three-pointers and 17-of-22 attempts from the free throw line.

In the second half, the Bishops stretched their lead to 11 in the first five minutes and held a seven-point advantage with 7:15 remaining.  The Panthers, however, found ways to chip away at the lead using their size down low and fast-breaking abilities.

It was at the 4:18 mark that Ferrum took its first lead of the game, and following foul-outs by NCWC's Essence Chambers and Cheyenne Hall, the Panthers were able to control play down the stretch.

Chambers finished with 22 points for the Bishops, while Shawnte Dickens, Gretchen Tobias, and Desiree' Driver added 14 points apiece.  Tobias also pulled down a team-high nine rebounds, and Nicole Williams dished out five assists.

For Ferrum, Ali Davenport recorded a double-double with 27 points and 11 boards.  She was joined in double-figures by Brittany Bullock, Shawnese Parker, and Miranda Carrasco, who netted 15, 14, and 13 points, respectively.

Ferrum shot 53 percent to the Bishops 42 percent from the floor.  The Panthers also out-rebounded the Bishops 42-33.

Wesleyan continues its current homestand on Tuesday night when Peace College visits Everett Gymnasium.  Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
