Hall's double-double gives Bishops 66-59 win over Meredith

Rocky Mount, NC - Senior Cheyenne Hall (pictured) recorded an impressive double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds to lead her North Carolina Wesleyan women's basketball squad to its second straight win, a 66-59 victory over Meredith College on Friday night in Everett Gymnasium.  With the win, the Bishops move to 7-11 on the season, 4-8 in USA South play, while the Avenging Angels drop to 5-13 overall, 2-10 in league action.

In the first half, Wesleyan opened the scoring with back-to-back lay-ups by Hall and Desiree' Driver.  The Bishops maintained their lead until the 13:17 mark when MC's Nicole Hall knocked down her third three-pointer of the period to give the Angels a 12-11 advantage. 

Meredith went on to extends its lead to as many as seven points on three occasions, but Wesleyan managed to put together an 8-2 run over the final four minutes of play. The Angels took their 28-27 lead into the break.

The second half saw the two teams trade leads for the first eight minutes of the period.  Wesleyan went on top for good at the 11:30 mark when a Nicole Williams three-pointer gave the Bishops a slim 41-40 advantage.  Driver and Hall then took over in the paint, helping NCWC build its lead to 10 points with 1:50 left in regulation.

The Angels made it interesting with three baskets inside of a minute, but forced to foul, they watched the Bishops knocked down 6-of-8 attempts at the charity stripe to secure the victory.

In addition to Hall's performance, Essence Chambers netted 16 points.  Williams and Driver chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Brittany Cornelius paced Meredith with a game-high 24 points and team-high six rebounds.  Hall finished with 22 points and five assists.

The Bishops return to action tomorrow against Shenandoah University.  Game time is slated for 2:00 p.m. in Everett Gymnasium.  Tomorrow is also Take a Kid to the Game day.  Youth 12 and under get in free and receive NCAA posters and promotional items.
