NCWC women's hoops drops two USA
South road games
Ferrum,
VA - The North Carolina Wesleyan women's
basketball team dropped two USA South games on the road this
weekend, falling at Mary Baldwin by a 59-51 score on
Saturday before dropping a 79-62 contest to Ferrum on
Sunday. Despite the losses, sophomore Gretchen Tobias
(pictured) turned a solid performance by averaging 14 points
and 10 rebounds over the two games. The Bishops are now 4-13
overall, 2-8 in conference play.
On Saturday, Wesleyan held a 35-32
halftime lead over MBC but shot a dismal 16 percent in the
second half en route to the loss. Tobias was the only Bishop
to reach double figures with 10 points and 15 rebounds.
At Ferrum on Sunday, the Battling Bishops
led by as many as seven in the first half and held a 37-34
lead at the break. The Panthers, however, used a 19-1 run
midway through the second period to break a 48-48 tie and
run away with the victory.
Tobias again paced the Bishops with 17
points and six rebounds, while Essence Chambers and Meredith
Mills contributed 13 and 10 points, respectively.
The difference in the game came on the
boards where Ferrum held a 44-31 advantage and converted 21
second chance points.
Wesleyan returns to action on Wednesday
night when Meredith College visits Rocky Mount. Game time is
slated for 7:00 p.m. in Everett Gymnasium. The Bishops
defeated the Avenging Angels by a 57-42 score earlier in the
season.
